Serena Williams Defends Drake Against U.S. Open Backlash

Serena Williams doesn’t blame anyone but herself for her losses and she says neither should we.
Last year, the tennis champ faced off in the U.S. Open semifinals against Roberta Vinci in hopes of claiming the 2015 Grand Slam title. Things didn’t go Serena’s way as she was defeated in three sets, making it one of the greatest upsets in her career. Twitter quickly played the blame game, attacking her reported boyfriend Drake for distracting her from winning the title.

Now in the July issue of Glamour, the 34-year-old pro athlete is coming to the rapper’s defense.
“I don’t think that was fair,” she said. “I’m the one who’s playing, who’s making mistakes or making winners. I’m not one to blame anyone else for anything. And I don’t think anyone else should either. I played a really good opponent that day. And I wasn’t at my best."
And while she didn’t confirm or deny the dating rumors, she did say that she has no intentions of settling down anytime soon.

"Who says that your thirties is when you’re supposed to be done? I would like to know who made that rule!” she exclaimed. “I was talking to my mom one time, like, ‘Gosh, I’m 30.’ And she’s like, 'In your thirties you’re even stronger than in your twenties.’ I didn’t believe her, but I have played better in my thirties. My consistency is better, my momentum is better, my wins are quicker."
Serena also revealed that she hopes to start her own family one day.
"That’s something I’ve always wanted since as long as I could remember,” she said. “And the older I get, the more I’m like, 'I’m too young!’"
