The Securities and Exchange Commission
has pledged its support to efforts to raise funds for the treatment of
kidney-related ailments and transplants.
The commission pledged its support to
the cause when a group, the Julie Donli Kidney Foundation, visited it, a
statement from the group said.
The group explained in the statement
that its visit to the commission was part of efforts to intensify its
campaign to save the lives of Nigerians diagnosed with kidney-related
ailments by calling on multinationals and corporate organizations to
assist in the areas of advocacy and treatment of patients.
The Founder, Julie Donli Kidney
Foundation, Julie Donli, was quoted as saying that although the
foundation was committed to the issues of advocacy, treatment and
sponsorship of kidney transplants for patients, the participation of
corporate organisations would increase the numbers of patients saved
from death as a result of kidney-related ailments in Nigeria.
She said the SEC was expected to partner with the foundation as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The statement added that the foundation also made the Director-General, SEC, Mr. Mounir Gwarzo, one of its patrons.
Gwarzo
was quoted as thanking the foundation’s Board of Trustees for the visit
and assured them that SEC would live up to its corporate social
responsibility in partnering with the foundation as the health of the
staff and the general community at large was paramount to the
commission.
