Police constable kills first-class graduate defending his girlfriend

A 30-year-old first class graduate of Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has been shot dead by a policeman in the course of defending his girlfriend.

The deceased whose name was given as Moses Murtala Aminu and lived at No. 67 Ahmadu Ahidjo Street, Narayi High Cost family residence, Barnawa, Kaduna State was said to have attended a party last Sunday where he had an encounter with the trigger-happy officer that killed him.

Sources say the police constable, Alex Okpe, was beating up his girlfriend outside the party venue, an act which attracted the intervention of Moses. The policeman got angered by the altercation that ensued and shot Aminu who died on the spot. Upon realizing that the death of his victim, Okpe fired shot into the air as he escaped on his motorcycle.



However, he has already been arrested by officers attached to the Barnawa Police Division.

Lending credence to the report, the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Femi Adenaike disclosed that Alex Okpe has been arrested, adding that he confessed to committing the crime upon interrogation. But, Okpe claimed that he fired the shots in ‘self-defense’.
